The award-winning Austrian costume designer Alfred Mayerhofer has been working internationally in the fields of opera, theater, ballet, film and television since 1992. The 2025/26 season will see him opening at the Vienna State Opera (The Bartered Bride), with further engagements including the Komische Oper Berlin (Konrad, Mokka-Hits und Milchbar-Träume), the Vienna Volksoper (Aschenbrödels Traum, Ronja Räubertochter), as well as the Graz Opera (Snow White and the 77 Dwarfs), the Staatstheater Darmstadt (L’incoronazione di Poppea), the Leipzig Opera (Regina), and the Gärtnerplatztheater Munich (La Traviata). Alfred Mayerhofer's work is characterized by stylistic diversity and narrative precision. He is well known to a broad television audience for the television series Kafka, for which he was awarded the DAfNE Prize in February 2025 for best costume design. Successful productions from past seasons include the world premiere of Alma at the Volksoper Wien (Director: Ruth Brauer-Kvam), Intermezzo at the Semperoper Dresden (Director: Axel Ranisch), Carmen and La Cage aux Folles (Director: Josef Köpplinger), A Midsummer Night's Dream, Im weißen Rössl and Tannhäuser (Director: Lydia Steier) at the Vienna State Opera. The Magic Flute (Director: Josef J. Köpplinger) and Der Vogelhändler (Director: Bernd Mottl) at the Gärtnerplatztheater Munich, at the Komische Oper Berlin: Nils Holgersson (Director: Ruth Brauer Kvam) and Messeschlager Gisela (Director: Axel Ranisch), as well as The Merry Widow (Director: Bernd Mottl) for the Cologne Opera. He has enjoyed a close working relationship with Lydia Steier since 2013, including The Emperor's New Clothes (Komische Oper Berlin), Iolanta – Oedipus Rex (Oper Frankfurt), La Juive, Le nozze di Figaro (Staatsoper Hannover).
